TVS at RESTORE’s Second General Assembly

13 Mar 2025 3 min read

On February 4-5, 2025, the second General Assembly of the RESTORE (Sustainable Remanufacturing solution with increased automation and recycled content in laser and plasma-based process) Project was held in Turin, Italy, hosted by one of the project consortium members Stellantis. Salauddin Sohag, Head of Product and Promotion and Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, Senior Electronics Engineer from Technovative Solutions Limited (TVS), participated in the meeting, showcasing TVS’ expertise and contributions to the project.

The meeting involved intense engagement from consortium partners, with each consortium member presenting updates on their respective work packages. The discussions highlighted the progress made and aligned expectations for the next phase of the project.

TVS' Role in the RESTORE Project

TVS plays a crucial role in the RESTORE project with several key responsibilities: conducting Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and cost modelling for various remanufactured products, creating a framework for Digital Product Passports (DPPs), developing tools to calculate product circularity, establishing a digital marketplace for stakeholders involved in remanufacturing, leading the integration and deployment of the RESTORE platform, demonstrating the functionality of RESTORE platform, evaluating the project’s contribution to sustainability, and formulating a plan and implementing it for the broader use and application of the project’s results.

TVS' expertise in LCA and DPP development is vital to the project's success. These tools are expected to drive sustainability and circularity within remanufacturing processes. The creation of a digital marketplace will further support collaboration among stakeholders.

During TVS’ presentation in the GA, a key discussion emerged around the relevance of DPP for one of the use case partners, Dalforsan, whose product is a steel roller. The conversation explored the challenges of implementing a DPP for such a product, helping refine TVS’s approach for diverse material applications.

Workshops and Key Learnings

Ahead of the General Assembly, TVS conducted multiple workshops with each use case provider. These sessions were instrumental in:

  • Understanding the current state of remanufacturing processes for different products.
  • Refining the scope of TVS’s contributions to ensure alignment with industry needs.
  • Identifying challenges and potential solutions related to digitalisation and circularity.

As explained by Mr. Sohag, a significant highlight of the visit, was a tour of CRF’s testing lab, where they observed how materials, including paint and vehicle components, undergo rigorous testing before being introduced into the market. This behind-the-scenes exposure was eye-opening, underscoring the level of research and validation required in material innovation.

Next Steps and Upcoming Milestones

Looking ahead, the consortium is now preparing for an important project review meeting with the Project Officer in Brussels, Belgium, scheduled for the first week of July 2025. This will be a crucial checkpoint to demonstrate progress and ensure alignment with Horizon Europe’s objectives.

The RESTORE project continues to pave the way for sustainable remanufacturing through cutting-edge digital tools, data-driven decision-making, and cross-industry collaboration. TVS remains committed to driving innovation in circularity, digitalisation, and traceability within this ecosystem.

About the RESTORE Project

RESTORE aims to advance potential Service-oriented Architecture (SoA) cladding technologies including laser direct energy deposition, plasma transfer arc process for sustainable remanufacturing application. For digitalization, the project is also aiming to develop a platform, which will offer digital technologies and tools, to increase process automation, recipe book and simulation tools for product and process optimisation, decision support framework, ecoDESIGN framework, blockchain-enabled digital product passport, digital marketplace, business model templates, and collaborative spaces that can help to facilitate and streamline the remanufacturing process, providing greater traceability, transparency, and efficiency.

The ReStore Project is funded within the Horizon Europe program (HADEA) with Project ID – 101138775.
