RESTORE kick-off meeting held in Portugal

29 Jan 2024 3 min read

The “Sustainable Remanufacturing solution with increased automation and recycled content in laser and plasma-based process” (RESTORE Project) kick-off meeting was held on 18-19th January 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal. The meeting was hosted by the European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF), the coordinator of the project.

The RESTORE project aims to offer sustainable by-design remanufacturing processes and materials along with supporting tools for the digitalization of the remanufacturing ecosystem.

Dr Fahim Chowdhury (Chief Executive Officer) and Salauddin Sohag (Head of Product) represented Technovative Solutions Limited in the meeting. According to our TVS colleagues, “a key takeaway from this meeting was the general lack of knowledge and curiosity about the Digital Product Passport (DPP). We actively discussed DPP, leaving us optimistic about our partners' eagerness to see its development. For TVS, this underscores our commitment to delivering a state-of-the-art digital passport solution.”

Contribution of TVS in the RESTORE Project Technovative Solutions LTD (TVS)’s contribution to the ReStore Project is vital in each of the phases till the completion of the project. The deliverables include:

  • Creating a life-cycle assessment (LCA) and Cost modelling tools.
  • Developing a digital marketplace that combines services and products.
  • Establishing a blockchain-enabled, ontology-based digital product passport.
  • Developing the RESTORE platform to integrate LCA, Cost model, Circularity Calculator tool, digital product passport (DPP), and other tools developed by partners in different work packages throughout the project.

About the RESTORE Project: Remanufacturing is critical for Circular Economies, extending product life, creating jobs and revenue streams, and reducing waste, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. The main challenges that need to be addressed for successful remanufacturing in an industrial value chain or, more appropriately, the value cycle are related to process, design, and business models. To meet these challenges, RESTORE will offer sustainable by-design remanufacturing processes and materials along with supporting tools for digitalization of remanufacturing ecosystem or value chain. RESTORE is aiming to advance potential service-oriented architecture (SoA) cladding technologies including laser direct energy deposition, plasma transfer arc process for sustainable remanufacturing application. For digitalization, the project is also aiming to develop a platform, which will offer digital technologies and tools, to increase process automation, recipe book and simulation tools for product and process optimisation, decision support framework, ecoDESIGN framework, blockchain-enabled digital product passport, digital marketplace, business model templates, and collaborative spaces that can help to facilitate and streamline the remanufacturing process, providing greater traceability, transparency, and efficiency.

RESTORE Project Consortium: The digital collaborative space for the project has brought along all relevant actors of the remanufacturing domain under one umbrella to share data and leverage a decision support framework and supporting tool, guiding the optimal remanufacturing of industrial products and components.
