The Chemistry Connects: Exploring Scientific & Career Pathways with Leading Minds event, held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on February 20, brought together esteemed academics, industry leaders, and aspiring students to explore diverse career opportunities for Chemistry graduates.
Among the distinguished speakers was Syed Shahadat Hossain, an Environmental Analyst at Indetechs Software Ltd., (a spin-off of Technovative Solutions Ltd.), who delivered an insightful talk on career progression beyond traditional laboratory roles. We talked with Syed Shahadat Hossain about his experience at the event.
From Lab to Leadership: a New Career Horizon
In his session, titled From Lab to Leadership: Career Paths for Chemistry Graduates, Syed Shahadat Hossain shared his personal journey and professional growth at Indetechs Software Ltd. He highlighted how chemistry graduates can transition into emerging fields such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), sustainability analytics, and environmental impact modelling—areas where chemistry and technology converge.
As the only speaker from the software industry among 12 guest speakers, Syed Shahadat Hossain emphasised the growing demand for environmental analysis and sustainability solutions within the tech sector. He also introduced Technovative Solutions Ltd. and Indetechs Software Ltd., detailing their origins, global presence, and role in providing software-driven sustainability solutions for industries worldwide.
Bridging the Gap: Chemistry and Software Careers
The event attracted a diverse audience, including students, faculty members, and high-ranking university officials, including the Vice-Chancellors from SUST, Sunamgonj Science and Technology University, and Metropolitan University, Sylhet; and administrative figures, including the Pro-VC, Treasurer, Proctor, Provost, and senior faculty members from SUST’s Chemistry Department.
A major takeaway from the session was the increasing curiosity among students regarding career prospects in the software industry for chemistry graduates.
Syed Shahadat Hossain added, "It was beyond their imagination—working in a software company as a chemistry graduate. Many students were excited by the idea of applying their expertise in a tech-driven environment, breaking the conventional notion that chemistry careers are limited to academia or lab-based roles. It opened new horizons for their potential career paths.”
One of the outcomes of the event was the interest expressed by senior faculty members from SUST’s Chemistry Department about Indetechs Software Ltd.’s activities, and TVS as a whole. With LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) being an integral part of the Environmental Chemistry Master’s programme, discussions regarding potential academic-industry collaborations have now emerged.
Audience Engagement and Thought-Provoking Discussions
The event comprised three major sections:
- Scientific Seminar
- Career Path Trends – featuring Shahadat Hossain’s talk
- Departmental Get-Together – an informal networking session
During the informal discussions, over 20 spontaneous speeches were delivered, focusing on career opportunities in the software industry for chemistry students.
Mr Shahadat’s talk garnered significant attention to the company, with many attendees eager to learn more about the company’s impact on sustainability and environmental transparency.
A New Path for Chemistry Graduates
The overwhelmingly positive response from students and faculty at Chemistry Connects 2025 highlighted a shifting perspective—chemistry graduates are now recognising opportunities in tech-driven industries like Indetechs. As the world moves towards sustainability and data-driven environmental solutions, such interdisciplinary careers are set to gain even greater relevance.
With potential collaborations on the horizon and a growing interest in the intersection of chemistry and technology, Indetechs Software Ltd. is paving the way for a new generation of professionals who blend scientific expertise with technological innovation.
