CLIMAte change citizens engagement toolbox for dealing with Societal resilience (CLIMAS) project is hitting the ending phase of its duration. The consortium has arranged a public event, ‘Adapting Together’, in Bologna, Italy, on May 28, 2025. The delegates discussed their insights and experience with 'Citizen Assemblies' of the project, deliberative democracy, and citizens' role in shaping policies and governance on the environment.
Dr Mohammad Azizur Rahman, Director-Technical at Technovative Solutions Ltd (TVS), joined a panel at this significant event as a panellist to talk at the session “Tools to Increase Citizen Assemblies’ Inclusivity-CLIMAS Toolbox”. His fellow panel members were Andrea Fabbri from Fondazione IU Rusconi Ghigi – Bologna, Silvana di Sabatino from the University of Bologna (Unibo), Julià Vicens from Eurecat, Yago Bermejo from Deliberativa, and Nuria Pérez Milan from PRES-Gencat. The session was moderated by Floridea Di Ciommo, Economist and Urban Analyst – Director of cambiaMO.
The panelists discussed the Climate Change Citizens Engagement Toolbox, an innovative climate adaptation Toolbox developed by the CLIMAS consortium. The Toolbox is co-designed with stakeholders, which adopts a value-based approach, design thinking methods and inclusivity to support climate resilience in an impactful way. Dr Mohammad Azizur Rahman in his speech mentioned the CLIMAS Toolbox as a set of practical and adaptable tools to support inclusive, informed, and locally grounded climate action through citizen engagement. From June 2025 onwards, the Toolbox is fully available.
About the Project
Climate Assemblies and Living Labs are considered sustainable and effective tools to foster deliberative democracy in climate policymaking. The CLIMAS project aims to support the transformation towards climate resilience by providing an innovative problem-oriented climate adaptation Toolbox, co-designed with stakeholders using a value-based approach, design thinking methods, and citizen science mechanisms. Our research will be carried out with a gender and diversity-sensitive approach, ensuring inclusivity and equity. The Toolbox will proactively address possible tensions, points of controversy, and dilemmas related to the adaptation to resilience. By doing so, the Toolbox aims to enable empowerment and engagement strategies that promote a society “resilient by design”.
